Construct Fitness Center/HAWC Andersen Air Force Base, Guam
This Design-Build project provides a new permanent Fitness Facility for the expanding needs of AAFB personnel and their families. The facility replaces the existing Fitness Center by providing updated fitness equipment and the addition of an indoor gymnasium and racquetball courts.
The Fitness Center will provide 5861 square meters of fitness and cardiovascular equipment areas, fitness and wellness assessment rooms, racquetball courts, shower and locker rooms, administrative support spaces, storage, and mechanical, electrical, and maintenance areas. The facility includes a Health and Wellness Center (HAWC) supporting wellness and physical fitness evaluation, health and nutrition training.
The building is constructed of a conventional concrete foundation, concrete slab-on-grade, pre-cast reinforced concrete walls/columns/beams, and pre-cast concrete roof planks with concrete topping. The gymnasium roof is structural steel/metal deck topped with concrete. On top of the concrete topping of the gymnasium is architectural metal roofing. The entire building is being designed to meet 190 mph wind loads, up from the traditional Guam requirements of 155 mph. The windows are impact resistant meeting both the 175 MPH DADE county requirements in addition to ATFP Force Protection design parameters. Site work included parking areas, walkways, signage, lighting, landscaping, and site utilities.
